Landscaping in Georgina, Sutton and Keswick

Landscaping in Georgina starts with the septic bed on most rural and lakeshore lots, because the Town asks owners to keep decks, patios and pools off the tank and structures and paving off the leaching bed. Cottage lots at Jackson's Point and Willow Beach are often small and close to the water, while Keswick's newer streets ask for patios, walkways and pool surrounds. We set the stone around both, build the base with machines we own and file the Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call) locate.

Patios, walkways and walls

The stone you walk on every day, laid on a base built to stay flat through a Kawartha winter.

  • ✓Natural stone, flagstone and interlock patios
  • ✓Walkways, front entrances and stone steps
  • ✓Armour stone and block retaining walls
  • ✓Pool surrounds
  • ✓Grading, drainage and sod to finish the yard

Outdoor living

The pieces that turn a yard into the place everyone ends up on a summer night.

  • ✓Fire pits and seating areas
  • ✓Pergolas and privacy screens
  • ✓Outdoor kitchens
  • ✓Decks and fences

We run our own excavators and skid steers, so the base under your patio is dug, graded and compacted by the same crew that lays the stone. The base is what decides whether a patio stays flat through freeze and thaw.

Walls that need them get structural drawings and a permit before we dig, and every build ends with a walk-through and a written warranty contract.

Building yards in Georgina, Sutton and Keswick: what changes here

Permits and locates

Georgina's site alteration rules exempt landscaping only while the fill placed stays at or under 20 cubic metres a year, and only outside LSRCA regulated areas. A full patio and wall build often brings in more, so the Town permit comes first. The Town's septic guidance asks owners not to build decks, patios or pools over the tank, and to keep structures, pools, hard surfaces and grade changes that pond water off the leaching bed. We locate both before the design is drawn and file what the job needs.

The ground you are on

Georgina is Simcoe Lowlands country: flat-floored valleys that follow today's rivers, floored with the sand, silt and clay left by glacial Lake Algonquin, according to LSRCA. On sand, a patio base drains and compacts well. On silt and clay, water sits and the ground heaves in a freeze, so the base goes deeper, the granular is compacted in lifts, and the grade is set to move water off the stone, away from the house and away from the septic bed.

The rule that shapes the build

Clearing for a yard on a wooded lot? York Region's Forest Conservation By-law requires a permit before trees come out of a treed area larger than 0.2 hectares, about half an acre, and the Region offers a Good Forestry Practices permit and a Special permit. We look at the tree cover with you at the first visit, so the design fits what can come out.

Landscaping in Georgina, Sutton and Keswick: your questions answered

Can you build a patio over my septic system?

No, and the Town of Georgina asks owners not to. Decks, patios and pools stay off the tank, and structures, hard surfaces and grade changes that pond water stay off the leaching bed. We find both and design around them.

Do I need a permit to regrade my yard in Georgina?

Up to 20 cubic metres of fill a year, outside LSRCA regulated areas, no. Grading that changes how water drains across the lot takes a Town site alteration permit either way. We file it.

Do you work in Georgina?

Yes. We are based in Bobcaygeon, a bit over an hour from Sutton and Keswick, and we travel for the work. You get a same-day callback, a written price after the site visit, and an owner on the job.

What do you build?

Patios and walkways in natural stone, flagstone and interlock, armour stone and block retaining walls, stone steps, pool surrounds, fire pits, pergolas and privacy screens, outdoor kitchens, decks and fences, plus the grading and sod that finish it.

How does pricing work?

The first visit gives you rough numbers. After the design meeting you get a detailed quote, a 10% deposit locks the scope and materials, and the final quote is the exact price for the job.

What size of project do you take on?

Most builds start around $20,000, from a patio and wall up to a full backyard at $150,000 and more.

When can you start?

One crew builds a limited number of yards each season. Designs signed over the winter are scheduled first for spring.

Do I need a permit?

Most patios and garden walls do not. A retaining wall over 1 metre of exposed height next to public property, access to a building, or private property the public is admitted to is a designated structure under the Ontario Building Code: it is designed to the Code's structural rules and takes a building permit, and we arrange the engineering. Anything close to the water needs the conservation authority's permit first. We check at the first visit.

Who is on site?

One or both of the owners, every day of the build, managing the job and keeping you and your neighbours in the loop.

Other areas and services

Every page has the local permit office, the ground and the rules for that area.
