Excavation in Mount Albert and East Gwillimbury

Excavation in East Gwillimbury starts with three Town approvals that catch people out: a fill permit from 20 cubic metres, an entrance approval for any new or wider driveway on a Town road, and a tree permit for clearing. Rural lots near Mount Albert, Holt and Ravenshoe bring new homes and long laneways; Holland Landing, Sharon and Queensville more often an addition, a trench or a regrade. Each gets an owner on the job and our own equipment, with the Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call) locate filed.

  • ✓Site services: water, hydro, gas and drainage trenches, backfilled and compacted

Driveways, drainage and land work

New driveway or entrance, a wet yard, a slope that needs terracing, a burst water line to the well? You get the machine, the operator and the paperwork in one call.

  • ✓New driveways, entrances and culverts, entrance permit filed for you
  • ✓Trenching for water lines, well lines and yard hydrants
  • ✓Drainage: swales, French drains and regrading that stop the pooling
  • ✓Retaining wall and shoreline excavation, permits coordinated
  • ✓Demolition excavation and haul-away for full-structure tear-downs

We run our own excavators and skid steers, and we dig with the utilities located first, every time. Soil that leaves the site goes to a proper reuse or disposal site under Ontario's excess-soil rules.

We do not do hydrovac, well drilling, fence post holes, paving or concrete forming. If your job is one of those we will point you to someone who does it. If it needs a machine, an operator who owns it, and the permits handled, we are the right call.

Digging in Mount Albert and East Gwillimbury: what changes here

Permits and locates

East Gwillimbury's fill permit application starts at 20 to 99 cubic metres, which the Town counts as two to ten tandem loads at about 10 cubic metres each, and climbs in tiers past 10,000. Any new or widened entrance on a Town road takes an entrance approval: Planning reviews it first, Engineering checks the culvert, drainage, sightlines and distance from intersections, and the Town does all work on Town property at the owner's cost. We file both, plus the Ontario Dig Authority locate, and build the driveway behind the Town's entrance.

The ground you are on

LSRCA's East Holland plan describes a rolling clay plain between Newmarket and Holland Landing so cut by valleys that the ground is rough, and north of Holland Landing a flat plain at about 220 to 225 metres running to Cook's Bay, including drained marsh farmland. East of the Holland Marsh the plain is deep glacial-lake sand and silt. Clay valleys mean steep cuts and wet bottoms; deep silt is soft when wet. We plan shoring, dewatering and granular for the ground we find.

The rule that shapes the job

Clearing a building lot? East Gwillimbury's Tree Protection By-law 2024-077 covers trees with a trunk diameter of 20 centimetres or more on private property. Owners can remove up to three live, healthy trees under 30 centimetres a year without a permit, along with dead, diseased, hazardous or listed invasive trees. Everything else takes a Town tree permit, applied for online, with no fee. We mark the trees with you and file the permit before the machine clears anything.

Excavation in Mount Albert and East Gwillimbury: your questions answered

Do I need a fill permit in East Gwillimbury?

Once fill passes 20 cubic metres, about two tandem loads, the Town's fill permit application applies, with tiers from 20 to 99 cubic metres up past 10,000. A foundation dig with backfill on site is a different question from importing fill. We sort it out at the site visit.

Who builds the culvert for a new driveway on a Town road?

The Town. East Gwillimbury's entrance approval says all work on Town property is done by the Town at the owner's expense, after Planning and Engineering review. We file the approval and build the driveway from the property line in.

Can you clear the trees for my new house?

Yes, with the Town's tree permit where it applies. The by-law covers trees 20 centimetres and up, with exemptions such as three healthy trees under 30 centimetres a year and dead or hazardous trees. We file the permit for the rest.

What excavation work do you do?

Site preparation and foundation digs, lot clearing and grading, trenching and backfill for services and water lines, driveways and entrances, drainage, and the excavation side of demolition and septic jobs.

What do you not do?

Hydrovac, well drilling, fence post holes, paving and concrete forming. We will tell you straight and point you to someone who does.

Do you handle the utility locates?

Yes. Ontario law requires a locate request before any digging. We file it with Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call) at least five business days ahead, and we do not dig until the marks are down.

How do you price excavation?

One written price after the site visit for a defined job. If the job is open-ended, we agree the rate and the estimate up front and you see the hours.

How soon can you start?

Small jobs often inside two weeks in season. Anything with permits waits on the permit, which we manage and keep you posted on.

What happens to the soil you dig out?

Reused on site where the grade needs it, otherwise hauled to a proper reuse or disposal site. Ontario's excess-soil regulation applies once soil leaves a property, and we handle that paperwork.
