Excavation in Bradford West Gwillimbury

Excavation in Bradford West Gwillimbury runs on Town and County rules worth knowing before a machine arrives: on a Town road the owner supplies and installs the driveway culvert, and placing fill takes a Town permit unless an exemption applies. We dig foundations, trenches, laneways and building pads across Bond Head, Newton Robinson, Coulson's Hill and the farms along the Holland Marsh, with excavators we own and an owner on every job. The Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call) locate is filed before the first bucket.

Site prep, foundations and services

Building a house, cottage, shop or addition? You get the lot cleared, the foundation dug to the engineer's drawings, the site services trenched in, and the grade set so water goes where it belongs.

  • ✓Lot clearing, stump and brush removal
  • ✓Foundation and basement excavation to the drawings
  • ✓Site services: water, hydro, gas and drainage trenches, backfilled and compacted
  • ✓Rough grading, imported granular and fill where the ground needs it
  • ✓Final grading and site restoration

Driveways, drainage and land work

New driveway or entrance, a wet yard, a slope that needs terracing, a burst water line to the well? You get the machine, the operator and the paperwork in one call.

  • ✓New driveways, entrances and culverts, entrance permit filed for you
  • ✓Trenching for water lines, well lines and yard hydrants
  • ✓Drainage: swales, French drains and regrading that stop the pooling
  • ✓Retaining wall and shoreline excavation, permits coordinated
  • ✓Demolition excavation and haul-away for full-structure tear-downs

We run our own excavators and skid steers, and we dig with the utilities located first, every time. Soil that leaves the site goes to a proper reuse or disposal site under Ontario's excess-soil rules.

We do not do hydrovac, well drilling, fence post holes, paving or concrete forming. If your job is one of those we will point you to someone who does it. If it needs a machine, an operator who owns it, and the permits handled, we are the right call.

Digging in Bradford West Gwillimbury: what changes here

Permits and locates

On Town roads, By-law 2017-78 requires a permit from the Director for a new or relocated entrance and for any culvert work. The owner provides and installs the culvert to Town standards at their own cost, the Director sets its size, and a lot with less than 36 metres of frontage gets one entrance. County roads take a Simcoe County entrance permit, plus a road occupancy permit for work in the County right of way. In LSRCA or NVCA regulated areas, grading and fill fall under O. Reg. 41/24, which since April 1, 2024 regulates 30 metres around wetlands instead of 120. We file each permit.

The ground you are on

The Holland Marsh is the flat floor of the town. LSRCA's West Holland plan describes a drained polder whose 18 kilometre inner canal is allowed to rise only 125 millimetres during spring runoff or storms, with smaller polders at the North Bradford Marsh and Deerhurst. Away from the marsh, the clay plain between Bradford and Schomberg is deeply cut by valleys. Bedrock, limestone of the Simcoe Group in the north and Blue Mountain shale in the south, lies under that glacial sediment. We plan access, shoring and dewatering around that ground before digging.

The rule that shapes the job

The Town's Fill and Site Alteration By-law 2017-33 exempts lawn dressing and landscaping only while the fill raises the ground no more than 200 millimetres, leaves the grade within 60 centimetres of a property line unchanged, leaves ditches and swales alone and totals no more than 200 cubic metres. Past 1,000 cubic metres, the owner signs an agreement with the Town that can be registered on title, retains a qualified person and files a Record of Site Condition. Work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays, or on weekends, takes the Director's written approval.

Excavation in Bradford West Gwillimbury: your questions answered

Who installs the culvert for a new driveway in Bradford West Gwillimbury?

On a Town road, the owner. By-law 2017-78 has the owner provide and install the culvert to Town standards at their own cost, with the Director setting its diameter, gauge and length, and the owner maintaining it afterward. We install the culvert with the driveway once the Town permit is issued.

When are half-load restrictions on Simcoe County roads?

March 1 to April 30, with a 5 tonne per axle limit on restricted County roads. The County issues separate permits for oversize loads and for any work inside its right of way. We schedule hauling and equipment moves around those dates.

Do I need a permit to clear trees on a rural Bradford West Gwillimbury lot?

On properties of one hectare or more, Simcoe County's Forest Conservation By-law regulates the clearing of forests, though it does not restrict cutting to put up a building that has its approvals and permits in place. We confirm which rules apply before any clearing starts.

What excavation work do you do?

Site preparation and foundation digs, lot clearing and grading, trenching and backfill for services and water lines, driveways and entrances, drainage, and the excavation side of demolition and septic jobs.

What do you not do?

Hydrovac, well drilling, fence post holes, paving and concrete forming. We will tell you straight and point you to someone who does.

Do you handle the utility locates?

Yes. Ontario law requires a locate request before any digging. We file it with Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call) at least five business days ahead, and we do not dig until the marks are down.

How do you price excavation?

One written price after the site visit for a defined job. If the job is open-ended, we agree the rate and the estimate up front and you see the hours.

How soon can you start?

Small jobs often inside two weeks in season. Anything with permits waits on the permit, which we manage and keep you posted on.

What happens to the soil you dig out?

Reused on site where the grade needs it, otherwise hauled to a proper reuse or disposal site. Ontario's excess-soil regulation applies once soil leaves a property, and we handle that paperwork.
